OVERVIEW
TOKYO Yamakawa Nature
~ A journey through the tranquil forest and suspension bridges on Mount Takao's "spectacular lift" ~
[Prologue: A premonition of "order" begins at the museum]
9:30 AM.
The meeting place is "TAKAO 599 MUSEUM," the gateway to Mount Takao.
Standing amidst the sophisticated space and expansive lawn, the hustle and bustle of the city center feels like a thing of the past.
"There's no need to push yourself to climb today."
The guide's words instantly put me at ease.
After warming up with some simple stretches, it's time to begin your special day.
[Chapter 1: Take the steepest slope in Japan and enter a completely different world]
Our first journey involves relying on the convenience of modern technology: the cable car.
As the train steadily climbs Japan's steepest incline, you can see the cityscape receding into the distance from the windows.
Shortcutting the most physically demanding section is a smart choice to ensure you can fully enjoy the rest of your forest walk.
[Chapter 2: The Silent Forest Unknown to Tourists]
Upon reaching the middle of the mountain, many tourists head towards the paved Trail 1, but we steer towards the quieter Trail 3.
It's a "green tunnel" where evergreen oak forests stretch out.
I walk slowly, feeling the texture of the soil under my feet.
Sunlight filtering through the trees, the scent of earth, the sound of birds.
The sacred atmosphere of Mount Takao, known as "Reiki Manzan" (meaning "mountain filled with spiritual energy"), slowly soothes a mind hardened by daily stress.
[Chapter 3: Lunch at the Summit and the Thrill of the "Suspension Bridge"]
Once you reach the mountaintop, feeling pleasantly tired, you'll find yourself in a lunchroom in the sky.
The simple bento box, spiced with fresh air and breathtaking scenery, transforms into a dish that rivals even the finest restaurants.
After recharging our energy, we headed back along "Trail No. 4," which is lined with beautiful beech trees.
Waiting for you here is the only suspension bridge on Mount Takao (Miyama Bridge).
The thrill and sense of freedom you feel on the slightly swaying bridge is the perfect accent to rekindle your inner child.
[Chapter 4: An aerial stroll on a "scenic lift" where you become one with the wind]
You don't need to walk down the mountain either.
On the way back, I chose the "lift," which doesn't have glass windows that obstruct the view.
Below lies a panoramic view of Tokyo's skyscrapers and the vast Kanto Plain.
It's an approximately 12-minute aerial stroll that feels like you're flying over a forest.
As you feel the wind caressing your cheeks, the scenery you gaze upon, thinking, "I came from that town, and I'm going back there again," will surely shine a little differently than when you arrived.
[Epilogue: The aroma of coffee, a lingering aftertaste shared]
I returned to ground level and took a break with a cup of coffee at the TAKAO 599 MUSEUM cafe.
"The quietness of the forest was unexpected," and "The ski lift ride was very pleasant."
This moment, as we look at each other and share our discoveries from the day, marks the end of our journey.
A pleasant feeling of fatigue and a sense of fulfillment. TOKYO Yamagawa Nature is a holiday for adults to recharge their energy for tomorrow.
Discover a different, more authentic side of Mount Takao.
"TOKYO Yamagawa Nature" is a premium walking plan that takes you through a tranquil forest (Route 3) away from the crowds and overlooking the famous suspension bridge (Route 4).
Conserve your energy on the ascent by cable car, and on the way down, enjoy an aerial stroll on the "lift" with unobstructed views, taking in the spectacular scenery of Tokyo.
This day is all about enjoying a relaxing day of "adult leisure," including lunch at the mountaintop and conversation at the museum cafe after descending.

HIGHLIGHTS
The only scientific forest tour in Tokyo to receive "Health Tourism Certification"**
This is not just a hike. This program is a special tour that is the only one in Tokyo to have received "Health Tourism Certification," which was created as part of a project promoted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Based on scientific evidence, it is designed with the aim of promoting physical and mental health, preventing lifestyle-related diseases, and stress care. Guided by certified guides, it is a highly reliable wellness experience that allows you to safely and effectively gain "health awareness."
The tranquil Trail 3 and the suspension bridge on Trail 4: Experience the "true face of Mount Takao" beyond the touristy areas**
Avoid the crowded paved trail (Trail 1) and walk along Trails 3 (Oak Forest) and 4 (Beech Forest), where you can feel the earth and enjoy the tranquility of the forest. By exploring these two forests with different vegetation, you can fully engage all your senses in a forest bathing experience. In particular, the only suspension bridge on Mount Takao, located on Trail 4, offers just the right amount of thrill and variety, providing a pleasant stimulus to both your brain and body.
Take the cable car up and the scenic lift down. Enjoy the "adult's leisure" without straining yourself.**
To avoid focusing on "reaching the summit" or "exhaustion," we make full use of modern conveniences for traversing steep inclines. On the way up, we conserve energy on Japan's steepest cable car, and on the way down, we enjoy an aerial stroll on the unobstructed "lift," feeling the Tokyo cityscape and the breeze. After descending, a rich moment awaits us at the TAKAO 599 MUSEUM cafe, where we share the pleasant afterglow with a cup of coffee.
ITINERARY
[Time Schedule]
• 09:30 Gathering
Orientation: TAKAO 599 MUSEUM
◦ Meeting Point: Please meet on the first floor of the museum or in the lawn area.
◦ Introduction: We will explain the objectives of today's course and safety measures.
◦ Warm-up exercises: We will do warm-up exercises to properly warm up our bodies and loosen our muscles before hiking in the mountains.
This is an important process for injury prevention (physical protection).
• 10:00 Travel: Take the cable car to the middle of the mountain (uphill)
◦ We'll board the cable car from Kiyotaki Station. It climbs Japan's steepest incline, rapidly gaining altitude. To conserve energy, we'll use the cable car for the ascent.
• 10:15 Forest bathing walk: Route 3 (Kashiki Forest)
◦ Course: From Takaosan Station, enter "Trail No. 3," which leads through a tranquil forest.
◦ Experience: Unlike the popular Trail 1, this is a tranquil forest with lush evergreen trees (such as oaks). Guided by a professional, you will take a "forest bathing walk" to experience nature using all your senses.
• 11:45 Lunchtime: Summit area
◦ Content: We will spread out our packed lunches in the open areas and on benches around the mountaintop.
◦ Highlights: Meals taste especially good when enjoyed in the crisp, clean air. Spend a relaxing time while admiring the scenery.
• 12:30 Active Walk: Route 4 (Suspension Bridge Course)
◦ Course: On the return journey, we will walk along the varied "Route 4".
◦ Experience: This course features the only suspension bridge on Mount Takao.
Walking through a bright forest of deciduous broad-leaved trees (such as beech) and enjoying the slight thrill of crossing a suspension bridge provides moderate stimulation to both the brain and body.
• 14:00 Descent: Take a scenic ride down the mountain by chairlift.
◦ Change: On the return trip, we will use the "lift" instead of the cable car.
◦ Reason: Because the lift has no windows, you can feel the wind directly and enjoy the view of Tokyo and the trees below up close.
This is a very open and refreshing descent route.
• 14:15 Sharing Time: TAKAO 599 MUSEUM
◦ Cafe & Reflection: After descending the mountain, take a break at the cafe or plaza inside the museum and enjoy a coffee (or your favorite beverage).
◦ Impressions: Participants will openly share their thoughts and feelings about today's experience and any changes they experienced in their mind and body.
The experience concludes with participants sharing comments such as, "That felt great," and "I feel refreshed."

To ensure a safe and enjoyable health walk on Mount Takao, we recommend layering your clothing to easily regulate your body temperature.

Because your body can easily get cold near the summit or while taking breaks, you will need sufficient warm clothing such as thick fleece or down jackets.
